The Guardian newspaper asked McCain what message Trump was sending the United Kingdom when he criticized London Mayor Sadiq Khan after the June 3 terror attack which left eight dead and dozens wounded.
What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesnt want to lead, McCain was quoted as saying, adding that the rest of the world now had doubts about the role the United States would play in global affairs.
They are not sure of American leadership, whether it be in Siberia or whether it be in Antarctica, McCain told the Guardian.
The newspaper then asked if Americas standing around the world was better under Obama.
As far as American leadership is concerned, yes, McCain said.
This is a major departure for McCain, who lost to Obama in the 2008 presidential election and was a fierce critic of his former rivals foreign policy.Last year, he gave that policy an F grade.
